Venice Virtual Reality:
The VR line-up at the 76th Festival

Lazzaretto Vecchio island, where the Venice VR section (Competition, Biennale College Cinema – VR, Best of VR – Out of Competition) of the 76th Venice International Film Festival is to be set up, is located just a short distance from the lagoon side of the Lido, in front of Riva di Corinto and across from the Hotel Excelsior.

Following the first edition in 2017, which was the first-ever competition for Virtual Reality films in an international film festival, the competition titled Venice Virtual Reality returns to Venice Film Festival, to the so-called “VR Island”. In addition to the Virtual Reality Immersive Stories from the Competition, Biennale College VR projects and Best of VR selection, other 12 VR Immersive Stories projects will also be presented in the context of Venice Production Bridge.

The Venice Virtual Reality official selection will be held at the Lazzaretto Vecchio (“VR Island”) from August 29th to September 7th, with press previews on August 27 – 28, in the afternoon.

Reservations are obligatory for access to the Venice VR and can be made at the website www.labiennale.org for accredited visitors.

The following VR viewing methods will be available:

  • seated viewing with visor in the VR Theatre
  • stand-up viewing (interactively or not)
  • three-dimensional installations with many forms of interaction

We thank the Polo Museale Veneziano and the Provveditorato alle Opere Pubbliche for kindly allowing us to use Lazzaretto Vecchio island for Venice Virtual Reality.
